CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – At the close of August 2026, Egypt’s international reserves reached a historic high of $57.2145 billion. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this provisional figure on September 7. Reserves stood at $56.2939 billion at July’s end. The monthly growth amounted to roughly $920.6 million, or 1.6%. This latest total marks Egypt’s first time surpassing the $57 billion mark in official reserve holdings.

The August figure continues a consistent upward trend observed throughout 2026. Reserves began the year at $52.5938 billion in January, then increased to $52.7455 billion in February and $52.8306 billion in March. April saw a rise to $53.0092 billion, followed by $53.1342 billion in May. By August, reserves had grown by approximately $4.62 billion since January and about $5.76 billion compared to the end of December 2025.
The pace of growth gained momentum mid-year. Reserves jumped from $53.1342 billion in May to $55.0723 billion in June, then further expanded to $56.2939 billion in July before reaching the new peak in August. The three consecutive monthly increases added over $4 billion to the total reserve stock. When comparing the latest figure to August 2025, the reserves are about $7.96 billion higher, reflecting an approximate annual growth rate of 16.2%.
Remittances Contribute Significantly to Foreign Currency Inflows
Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also achieved a record high during the fiscal year 2025/2026. The Central Bank of Egypt reported that these inflows totaled around $47.3 billion, up from roughly $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year, marking a 29.6% increase. In June alone, remittances reached approximately $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the roughly $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025.
Egypt’s latest balance of payments figures cover the first nine months of fiscal year 2025/2026. During July to March, the overall balance posted a deficit of $1.8 billion. The capital and financial account experienced net inflows of $9.9 billion, while the current account registered a deficit of $14.6 billion. These numbers provide the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external financial position prior to the August reserve update.
Continuous Monthly Reserve Increases Persist in 2026
Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve figures have repeatedly reached new nominal highs. The holdings exceeded $55 billion in June, then surpassed $56 billion in July. August marked the first month with reserves above $57 billion. The country has now recorded three consecutive month-end reserve totals above $55 billion. The August reserve level is also over 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion reported at December 2025’s end.
These latest figures position Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest level ever documented. Moreover, they reflect an unbroken upward trend in reserves since the beginning of 2026. Every month from January through August saw reserve figures surpass the previous month’s total. Although the August data remain provisional under the central bank’s reporting standards, the overall pattern clearly indicates a steady rise in Egypt’s reserve holdings during the first eight months of the year.
